Per Law & Fact Lite, Cuyahoga County Bar Association, May 12, 2005, cellphones or other devices capable of audio or video recording are prohibited in the U.S. Northern District of Ohio courthouse. This rule does not apply to court personnel, jurors, persons attending naturalization or ceremonial functions and lawyers upon proof of professional status. Northern District of Ohio General Order 2006-11 states that judges may ban cellphones, handheld devices or laptop computers that are capable of recording, storing and/or transmitting audio, photo or video data, in the judges' chambers or courtroom. The presiding judge may direct court security to remove these items when screening people entering the courthouse.
