On Wednesday, Governor Stickland signed an Executive Order banning electronic video games that pay out cash. Likening them to slot machines, the Governor has given Attorney General Marc Dann immediate authority to promulgate rules to help law enforcement officers shut down illegal gambling machines. The order is not intended to cover legal amusement machines like those that are found at Chuck E. Cheese or Cedar Point or machines that award prizes worth less than $10.00. The Plain Dealer reports that Dann is in the process of issuing about 700 cease and desist orders to businesses with offending machines, dozens of which are located in Cuyahoga and Summit counties. The print Daily Legal News reports that the letters indicate that the machines must be shut down within 3 days. Click here for a press release describing the specifics of the Executive Order.
