Tech Thursday: Best Browser Privacy Tools

With all the news about hacking and social media sites tracking users online without their consent, you may wish to lock down your online browsing. In her Techlicious article "The Best Browser Privacy Tools (That Don't Make Life More Difficult)" Natasha Stokes gives us her list of privacy tools for the four most-used browsers in the United States: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. You can read her article here.

ABA Partnering with Rocket Lawyer to Help Small Businesses Find Legal Services

The October issue of Law Technology News contains an interesting article on the ABA's new partnership with Rocket Lawyer. According to the article, these organizations are "teaming up to explore innovative solutions to a vexing legal paradox-the difficulty small businesses face finding affordable legal services at a time when many lawyers would welcome expanding professional opportunities." This means that they are collectively going to look for solutions to help laywers serving individuals and small businesses get more business while also helping consumers better afford routine legal services such as wills, medical directives, incorporations.Key to this new initiative will apparently be exploring ways to deliver online legal services. A pilot program will also be developed to link lawyers with potential clients using Rocket Lawyer's cloud-based platform.

Top-Level Domain Names .Lawyer and .Attorney Available for Lawyer Web Sites

Lawyers-you may not know that there are 2 top-level domain names available for you to use when you create a web site. According to ICANN,  both .Lawyer and .Attorney are both available from the registry maintained by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority). Using either of these top-level domain names, your web site address or URL could be www.johndoe.lawyer or www.johndoe.attorney. If you have not already created a web site or want to re-brand yourself, these might be a good idea. Many companies are available to help you register a name for your web site, but here is a list of a few to browse.

Tech Thursday: Are You A Target For Mobile Malware?

It has been reported that there has been a 197% increase in mobile malware in the last few years. Are you at risk? The New York Times' Molly Wood writes "... is mobile malware a threat? Sure. Ohio Supreme Court is Considering Creating E-Filing Rules for Its Own Court

Like many of the state and local Ohio courts that have already done so, the Ohio Supreme Court is now considering creating e-filing rules for its own Court. According to the Court's news release, some of the proposals for new rules could cover "how to register for e-filing, what documents are allowed to be e-filed, and when copies of e-filing documents may be required." The proposed amendments to the rules will be published for public comment until October 29th.

Tech Thursday: New Security Bug: Bash or Shellshock

CNET's Claire Reilly and Steven Musil write about a new security vulnerability called Bash or Shellshock. They write that "The quarter-century-old security flaw allows malicious code execution within the bash shell (commonly accessed through Command Prompt on PC or Mac's Terminal application) to take over an operating system and access confidential information." Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Has Created a New Jury Video

The Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court has created a brand new jury video. Captioned "Call to Serve," this new video provides an introduction for jurors reporting for duty about what to expect and how the Court operates. The Court also provides Jury Duty FAQ's such as how long service lasts, the different types of juries, what to wear, and who is exempt.
